1976 Shadow DN5
The Shadow DN5 is regarded as one of the prettiest of the Seventies “High Airbox” cars, designed by the brilliant Tony Southgate the cars were always very fast, taking pole positions and leading races only to be thwarted by reliability issues, likely robbing them of several Grand Prix victories. This particular example is described by Don Nichols as a test and development car and as such was never raced in period. The car passed from Nichols, Shadow team owner, to George Folmer a former team driver before eventually being rebuilt and made ready for historic racing. More recently the car has been recommissioned along with new HTP’s valid until 2035, a fresh crack test certificate and new safety equipment in order to compete in the Masters F1 race earlier this year at Brands Hatch. The Cosworth DFV has covered just under 300 miles since a comprehensive rebuild and the car has a good spares package, all making it ready to use and enjoy. £340k
